All analysts analyse the significance of Israel's attacks in Lebanon

The news we’ve been following in the Middle East Lebanon says at least four hundred and ninety-two people have been killed in the latest wave of Israeli attacks, as Jeremy Diamond reports in our report. Israeli airstrikes have been hitting southern and eastern Lebanon, but this is the most intense Israeli bombing of Lebanon since the 2006 war. The deadliest Israeli military said hundreds of people were killed and many others wounded, targeting Hezbollah weapons depots and rocket launchers. Meanwhile, Israeli air defenses have gone into action, with Israel firing more than two hundred rockets and drones targeting the city of Haifa and targets much further south than usual, with at least two missiles falling more than sixty miles south of the West Bank or Lebanese border and just east of Tel Aviv.
