President Biden spoke to President Trump this weekend. Have you spoken to him earlier today as expected you want to give us some inside information. I have checked with the Saviors. I told them what I had said publicly. Because there is no place for political violence in our country. I am in this race for many reasons in this election. That includes fighting for democracy. There is no place for political violence in democracy. We can and should have healthy debate and disagreement but should not resort to violence to resolve those issues. On January 6, the bugler was allowed to pass a sort of biblical pipe bomb. We have seen I was in the building what you want to do and we have seen what is happening to the former president. Trump, did you have full confidence in the Secret Service to protect you all? Did you feel safe for yourself and your family? But I mean you can go back to Ohio.
But the body has secrets. There are too many people in our country. Right now we don’t feel safe. I mean I look at Project Twenty Five and I look at you know the don’t say gay law from Florida members of the LGBTQ community don’t feel safe right now. Immigrants people who have immigrant backgrounds don’t feel safe right now women don’t feel safe here. So yes I feel safe I have Secret Service protection. But that doesn’t change my perspective. It’s my goal to fight for the safety of everybody in our country and to do everything possible to make people live again and not beat people up so that they feel alone. They’re made to feel small and made to feel like. that somehow nobody else is part of this or us.
This coincidentally he’s speaking to reporters at an event held by the National Association of Blood Journalists in Philadelphia. This is a response to an event that was held a few months ago with Donald Trump. We have a different event here, a much more balanced conversation here with a vice president. He spoke on some topics including his confidence in the Secret Service after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the second assassination attempt. She said she spoke to Donald Trump and told him that according to her there is no place for political violence in our democracy.
She also talked about how her laughter is being used by Republicans as a pretext to attack the economy, the war in Gaza, and attacks on immigrants in Ohio. She spoke at length on this, as well as gun control and reproductive rights, McCann David Chalian and also Atlanta Journal Constitution also Tear Mitchell this is for you guys and Studio First. I wonder if you think it was significant enough in our point. Specifically for a couple of examples, she was asked about her plans beyond the child tax credit. Like helping families for things like eldercare, she didn’t go into specifics and I know as journalists we like specifics.
It doesn’t always show, she was also asked if there could be a federal response or if it could be necessary when it comes to Springfield Ohio, she talked in some detail about how she feels about these issues. But maybe she shouldn’t commit to answering that question, whereas I think in broader terms like fraud, actually she said quite a bit, she talked about low housing supply, how we know our families should spend more than seven percent of their income on childcare. Increased wages for home health care providers, she talked about our plan for small business owners, so we got quite a bit of that in and I think ultimately the goal here is to try to draw a contrast with the former president.
