Early voters are heading to the polls in three states today. Voting starts today in Minnesota South Dakota and Virginia. Brian joins us now from Arlington. Ajay, what are you hearing from lawmakers there? Diane was standing at a polling place in Arlington Virginia. Democrats are trying to get the boat out to what they call a block party, to take advantage of what they call the enthusiasm that is present with the Harris Walls campaign, and to talk about that I want to bring in Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine. Who has just spoken a little bit on that stage? A lot of these voters are standing in line to vote here. There are a lot of Democrats here. Do you think this enthusiasm would have existed about a month ago if there was another name at the top of the ticket? If it was President Biden the surge in enthusiasm Sen. Kamel became. The nominee has been remarkable everywhere. I’m even on the ballot this year. So traveling everywhere.
But I’m watching this and the acrobatics in Amherst. The energy for an academic is the surge in voter registration volunteerism low dollar donors. I think the big turnout here in Arlington and later today at an event in Manassas was to see a lot of people who are excited to vote and make some history as she starts to overtake Trump in some national polls. In some swing states it’s a very close race. Do you worry that something similar will happen? There’s an apathy that starts to have an effect. With the Democrats, some of that enthusiasm burns off. I don’t think I am, there was some of that in 2016 when I was on the ticket with Hillary. What I think is that after a year when you know President Obama a lot of Democrats are feeling good. They maybe weren’t as hungry as they needed to get out.
That’s when we learned a lesson from that and I think that energy is very clear. Clearly while some of the polls may look good. I think these races are still going to be very close. She’ll be very close while she’s still trailing Trump on issues like the economy. Like immigration, that’s why she’s trailing Trump. On issues where voters trust Trump more. On those issues, the economy is the issue that matters the most to most people. We saw Biden had a very big deficit to Trump on the economy. Harris is closing that gap dramatically. The polls I’ve seen lately on the economy. They show her very close to Trump. The reason why unemployment is low. You had four-to-one again manufacturing. Where manufacturing is again having problems and challenges. They always will be, the Fed is going to cut interest rates. Which will help even more with inflation, I think the US economy is the strongest in the world. Stupidly she’s been able to hold it together. Also talking about plans on how to deal with housing costs, and how to help people with prescription drug costs.
Tax relief for small businesses, not for big guys, economic plans like that I think resonate with people quickly to the center we’ll let you go. Have you responded to some of your colleagues Congress and the House of Representatives in particular have accused the Democrats of continuing to push a certain rhetoric. About President Trump saying he’s a threat to democracy and things of that nature. Democrats have been accused of creating an environment that led to assassination attempts on the former president. Does my Johnson has a point? When he says something like that it’s a desperate lie that we mean first look at the identity of these two deranged individuals.
